Creating an account

You will need an account if you want to do more than just read FEM Wiki.  Registering is easy: click the 'join' link at the top-left of any page and fill in your details.  If you use your real name then it will be easier to approve your registration and for people to find you.  

Filling in your profile

Once you have registered, you will have a profile page that you can always get to by clicking your name at the top of the window.  Here you can display your:

  • Interests or areas of speciality.
  • Affiliation, e.g. your institution or company.
  • Contact details,  including links to profiles on other social networks.

In addition, there are tabs on this page for showing your recent activities and friend network.


There are a range of activities that are supported on the site.  You can:

  • Post status updates to let other users know what you are doing.
  • Favourite pages that are particularly interesting.
  • List friends that you know.

Forgotten password

If you have forgotten your password, click I need help with my password on the Sign in page. You will be requested to enter the email address you used when creating your account and you will receive an email with instructions about creating a new password.

If you encounter any problem you cannot solve yourself write us on address.

Mail notifications

By default, you are included in all discussions within your group via e-mail.  You can opt-out in several ways:

  • Muting the individual thread (via Mute Thread in Options box alongside thread)
  • Unsubscribing from specific forums by going to the Options box within any forum and clicking:
    • Email unsubscribe from this forum to unsubscribe from this individual forum
    • Manage subscriptions to set which subscriptions are active.
