Objectives

 The main objectives are:

To offer a comprehensive programme of advanced training in modern methods in TB laboratory diagnosis and laboratories/networks assessment to a dedicated group of Support Experts aimed on creation of new cadre of senior TB laboratory specialists to support and complement existing Senior Scientists and Laboratory Directors across the network and beyond

 Qualified TB Laboratory Specialists

Selection criteria

  • Extensive microbiological experience;
  • BSc or MSc level;
  • supported by an ERLTB-Net member

Content

 

  • Basic Principles of TB and MDR-TB Laboratory Diagnosis;
  • Molecular tools in TB laboratory diagnosis and epidemiology;
  • Conducting assessment visits;
  • Recent advances in TB epidemiology and laboratory diagnosis.

Methods / format

 The training programme for each Support Experts cohort comprises three small training workshops and two large capacity building workshops, including interactive lectures, problem-oriented group discussions, and hands on laboratory training.
